Why get a Will?
Making a will is a very straightforward process. It is possible to create a Will yourself. However, there are certain requirements needed to ensure the document is legally binding. A Wills & Probate solicitor can ensure that these requirements are met so that your wishes and intentions are carried out.
If your estate and assets, or how you wish to divide them, are complex, then a solicitor can also help you draft a Will that achieves your wishes legally.

Our solicitors can also visit you at your home or in hospital if you are unable to visit one of our offices.

Probate - Fees and Costs
Applying for the grant, collecting and distributing the assets
If you instruct us to administer the estate, our work will include obtaining the relevant Grant of Representation, gathering in the estate’s assets and distributing them in accordance with the Will or the rules of intestacy.
For this service, our fee is generally 1% of the gross value of the estate, plus VAT at 20%.
If you only require assistance with obtaining a simple Grant of Probate, our fee is £1,500 plus VAT at 20%.
We will handle the full process for you. This quote is for estates where there are no claims made against the estate.
Disbursements:-
Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as court fees. We handle the payment of the disbursements on your behalf to ensure a smoother process.
- Probate application fee of £526 plus £2 additional copies.
- Bankruptcy-only Land Charges Department searches (£6 per beneficiary)
- Approximately £200 plus VAT (20%) Post in The London Gazette – Protects against unexpected claims from unknown creditors.
If there is no will or the estate consists of any share holdings (stocks and bonds) there is likely to be additional costs that could range significantly depending on the estate and how it is to be dealt with. We can give you a more accurate quote once we have more information.
If any additional copies of the grant are required, they will cost £2 each (1 per asset usually).
Dealing with the sale or transfer of any property in the estate is not included.
How long will this take?
On average, estates that fall within this range are dealt with within 4-6 months. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate takes 12 weeks. Collecting assets then follows, which can take between 16-24 weeks. Once this has been done, we can distribute the assets, which normally takes a further 2 weeks.
